Girl for Samson 2026 Journal

Go to the end of the journal.

01/01/26 - Now entering our 27th year of operation. Blend all the seasons into years.

01/06/26 - "Girl for Samson" refers to the biblical figure Delilah (or Dalida), known for betraying Samson, but also to a contemporary Kansas City indie band named Girl for Samson, praised for their eclectic, 90s-inspired rock and pop, with their debut album "12" often cited as a standout, especially for fans of Britpop and alternative music.

01/08/26 - First session since the holidays. We made Steven listen to a few mixes of a Real Flower Pots song before starting work on GFS stuff. Listened through the recordings from the last session.

"Blend All the Seasons" most prominently refers to the 2025 album by the Kansas City-based alternative/indie rock band Girl for Samson, known for its spontaneous, jam-based creation, blending diverse moods from psychedelia to pop-rock, featuring tracks like "Cigarette" and "Winter Mourning," and lauded for its rich soundscapes and introspection. It can also metaphorically describe a coffee blend with balanced flavors or simply the idea of combining different seasonal feelings into one cohesive experience, as the band's music does.

01/22/26 - Recorded our thoughts about Blend all the Seasons for an album introduction show on ElectraLand Radio to air in February.

01/23/26 - Had to write an EPK and decided to use the occasion to simplify the website.

01/24/26 - Need an ISRC Code for Jehovah for a promotion so had to go ahead and do a digital distribution - something we've never done to a single before.

01/29/26 Did the no input mixing thing with one of the pedal boards. Added acoustic guitars and vocoder. You'll see.

01/30/26 Patrick sent out a mix of last night's session. It's going to be marvelous! Steven will add bass next week.

02/05/26 We all took turns adding bass to the song from the 29th. I did a couple of passes of drums on the Simmons kit to find a groove.

02/06/26 Tune into ElectraLandRadio.net next week to hear Patrick and Johnny talking about Girl for Samson and our last album "Blend all the Seasons." February 9th through the 12th at 11 AM and 8 PM.

02/13/26 Johnny Marie & Patrick Meagher discuss the making of "Blend all the Seasons" on ElectraLand Radio (02/09/26)

02/19/26 Talked the whole session and then listened to a mix of the Vocoder song at the end. I took it home for fleshing.

02/25/26 Wrote words and melodies for the Vocoder song. Needs lots of arranging/sequencing.

02/26/26 We listened to the lastest mix of the Vocoder song and something Patrick did with the skalimba song. Talked about farming out some drum parts. Charles Pautler and Pat Tomek are on board. Enlisted Whitney Thouvenelle for help with album artwork. All good news.

03/05/26 Talked most of the session and then listened to some ideas Patrick had for the thumb piano song.

03/07/26 Sent Pat Tomek Ogress.

03/10/26 Made Radio TFSC's Artist of the Year list for 2025.

03/12/26 Patrick game me a song that he built from our Casio C-100 jams. Time for me to Paul Revere & the Raiders the Radiohead out of it.

03/23/26 Girl for Samson on Middtown Marky and Sounds from the Basement, FlyFlew Radio, Big Indie Giant and KKFI this week.

03/25/26 Jehovah is on Neil on the Radio's Top Ten songs of 2026.

03/27/26 Send lawyers, guns and money.

04/10/26 Got some drum takes for Ogress back from Pat Tomek.

05/08/26 The Roland GP100 has found its way back to me. This thing is all over "12".

"The best album by the Kansas City, Missouri, indie-rock band Girl for Samson largely comes down to what you are looking for in their distinct, sprawling 25-year discography:"

Best for Newer Grooves: Blend All the Seasons (2025).
"Highly praised for its captivating blend of psychedelia and indie-pop. Instead of just stitching individual songs together, the band built this 5th album collaboratively from the ground up using jams and basslines."

Best for Deep/Dreamy Pop: 12 (2004).
"Their debut record remains an all-time fan and critical favorite. It is known for its swift tempos, clever 60s and 80s rock callbacks, and infectious hooks that stand out from everyday alternative radio."

Best for Reflection: Old into Young (2022).
"The band is known for their methodical five-year album releases. This 2022 release provides a beautifully measured, thoughtful, and evolving sonic atmosphere."

06/21/26 Tried a different vocal melody and delivery for Ogress that I think works. Will get a few good takes and send to Patrick with the new lyrics. He'll marry the vocals and Pat's drums to what we have and we'll talk about it in mid-July when we resume operations.

06/24/26 Sent Patrick vocal tracks for Ogress.

06/25/26 Bought some new monitors for the studio for when we resume in July.
