12/16/18 Red-tailed Hawk watching the feeders yesterday. Coopers Hawk today.
11/07/18 Put up the window feeder.
10/13/18 Asters, Obedient Plant, Goldenrods, Anemone, Blue Mist, White Snakeroot all still blazing.
09/21/18 Another amazing year for pink Inornate Pyrausta Moths. We've found them all month including 3 today. The morning searches are like easter egg hunts.
07/21/18 Saw a Mississippi Kite in my neighbor's front yard.
07/02/18 Found another pair of Catbird eggs in the Forsythia nest. There's already a pair of young Catbirds flopping around the yard from the fist brood.
There is a sad looking Northern Cardinal that has claimed our yard. He has a gray belt across his breast. He hangs out with an equally sad looking female whole has white lines above her eyes. The sad looking male can sing his ass off. He takes the standard "Petunia! Petunia! Whoop Whoop Whoop Whoop!" call AND DOUBLES IT! Without pause. He even adds a syllable at the end.
07/01/18 Two Barred Owls still hitting the backyard right around 9. Very upsetting to all of the birds with nests.
06/30/18 Nighthakws flew overhead and we could hear them squeeking. Heard them booming 2 weeks ago.
06/15/18 Replaced the missing Swamp Milkweed. Added more Coneflowers, Butterfly Weed and Daisies.
06/06/18 Watched one of the baby rabbits that are on the propterty take a dust bath. Had never seen that before.
06/05/18 The Northern Cardinal nest is empty. I have a bad feeling about that. They seemed too young to fledge.
05/28/18 Two healthy Monarch caterpillars grinding away on Common Milkweed.
05/22/18 And the monarch caterpillar is now toast - sucked dry by a stink bug nymph.
05/21/18 FINALLY, a monarch cat in my common milkweed!
05/20/19 Squirrels keep ransacking the Oriole feeder so finally lost my brood. Put up the Hummingbird feeder since I have seen them zooming around the yard.
05/11/18 Ran to Roe Park in the morning. I saw what you see at Roe Park every year in early May - Wood Ducks, Great-blue Heron in nests, Ruby-crowned Kinglets and loads of Baltimore Orioles.
05/05/18 Spent an hour or so at Weston in the afternoon. Saw Indigo Bunting, Yellow-throated Vireo, American Redstart, Red-eyed Vireo, Swainson's Thrush, Willow Flycatcher, Louisiana Waterthrush, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and more. Northern Cardinals everywhere!
05/04/18 Pair of Catbirds and a half-dozen Baltimore Orioles hanging around. Expanded the all white garden.
05/03/18 Loads of Orioles on the feeder. Saw FOS Catbird!
05/01/18 Baltimore Orioles are here!
04/28/18 Back from the anual trip to Cheyenne Bottoms. Got my first Cinnamon Teal.
04/21/18 It's Ruby-crowned Kinglets-flying-up-to-you-defiantly season.
80% fiinished with cleaning out the stalks from the gardens from last year's growth.
04/19/18 Fistful of Ruby-crowned Kinglets in my neighbor's invasive honeysuckle.
04/08/18 First fully formed, perfectly executed "Petunia! Petunia! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!" by a Cardinal.
04/07/18 Fox Sparrow scratching around in the gardens.
03/31/18 Brown Thrasher here right on time.
03/29/18 Brown-headed Cowbird in the window feeder.
03/04/18 Grackles.
01/25/18 And we now have Robins in the yards.
01/20/16 The Cardinals are starting to babble in the mornings. Joy!
01/01/18 Amazed as always that squirrels can survive nights that are -5 degrees (or less!) in a pile of leaves in a tree. Why isn't the ground just littered with their frozen carcasses the next morning?
