Lucia Navarro
Lucia Navarro is a seasoned journalist who anchors the daily morning news show for CNN en Español “Actualidad en Vivo” from the city of
Atlanta in the United States.
Since joining CNN en Español, Navarro from the anchor chair has covered many Latin American and Global
relevant news events and in the field, she was able to cover stories like, the Democratic Convention in Tampa Florida 2012 and the
US Presidential Elections the same year and the Election in Panama among others.
During her time at CNNE, Navarro was able to interview some World Leaders and decision makers like; Former Secretary General
of the Organization of America States (OAS) Jose Miguel Insulza, Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela, the President of Costa Rica
Luis Guillermo Solis, President of Chile Michelle Bachellet, Former President of Colombia Alvaro Uribe Velez, Eva Longoria and
John Leguizamo among others.
Lucia launched her journalism career in 1984 in Monterrey Mexico where she anchored TV Azteca Morning news show “Al Dia”. From 1986
to 1993 she was the co-host of “Buenos Dias Monterrey” from Televisa also in Monterrey Mexico.
From there she moved to Houston Texas to work for Telemundo, where she was the anchor of all the newscasts of the station as well as
Content Editor. In 2001 Lucia was recruited by NBC-Telemundo Executives during an expansion program going on within the Organization
to be the main anchor for their Prime Time newscast at KVEA Channel 52 in Los Angeles California, where she was able to utilize her vast
experience on news content gathering and rapidly she became a very important brand on the Hispanic Television Market in the LA area.
On her Television career before CNN, Navarro covered many other important stories such as; The Shuttle Columbia tragedy, Fort Hood
massacre in Texas, Athens Olympic Games, and the 9-11 Terrorist Attacks in the US. Lucia has been nominated 5 times to the prestigious
Emmy Awards winning 3 of those nominations, Investigative Reporting, Reporting on Social Issues and Breaking News. She also won 2 Golden
Mic Awards in the category of Breaking News for Noticiero Telemundo 52. In 2007 for her contributions and working with the community on a
weekly segment ”Lo bueno y Lo malo” KVEA was awarded The Governors Emmy.
Lucia has done hundreds of hours of volunteer work in different social and economic development programs. In 2004 she received the Bert Corona
Award, this is a honor given by the “Hermandad Mexicana” to personalities whom has distinguished themselves by their contributions to the
respect for civil and human rights and for their leadership on Immigration issues in Southern California.
Lucia was born in Monterrey Mexico where she finished her Communication studies at the (ITESM) Technical Institute and Superior
Studies Monterrey, and has been recognized as an distinguish Student.
Lucia is fluent in both English and Spanish.
