About the Site
I've accumulated thousands of amature vintage family slides over the last 8 years for a variety of projects. I generally ended up using
only a small percentage of the lots and then sold the balance. In order to help sell the slides that I did not need, I would
scan 3-6 of the sexiest samples from each lot to include with the sales info. This site features high resolution scans of these
samples.
There are currently 1262 pictures in the database.
Typical Subjects
Holidays, birthdays, weddings, picnics, families, children, couples, relatives, travel, family vacations, cruises, tourist traps, roadside attractions, service stations, businesses, town views, street scenes, ma and pa shops,
parades, amusement parks, mountains, lakes, beach scenes, vintage cars and anything else you might expect to find in a vintage carousel of slides.
The images are from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s & 1980s.
You can look through the thumbnails for free using the search option at the top of the page.
Condition of Photographs
Pictures were selected for the subjects/topics, not condition. In fact, the majority of the slides were not
cleaned beyond a spray on both sides with compressed air. Some of the shots may even be blurry, too light or
too dark. Some may be speckled or contain an errant piece of lint or a vintage eyelash. Again, the story is
the focus.
Quality of Scans
All slides were scanned at 2400-4800 DPI on a variety of scanners over the last 8 years. Most of the resulting scans were
saved as .tiffs. Landscape images were resized to 1000 pixels and portrait were resized to 800. They were saved as .jpgs
with very low compression. Some of the slides are modified with fade correction and other tricks to make them viewable. Please
keep this in mind when asking about purchasing the original high resolution scans.
